Two arrested in Nagpur for taking online bets on India-West Indies match
Nagpur Police arrested two men for allegedly running online betting on the India-West Indies cricket match from a house in New Suraj Nagar, and seized items worth about Rs 1.05 lakh.
Nagpur Police have arrested two men on charges of taking online bets on the ongoing India-West Indies cricket match. The activity was allegedly being run from a house in New Suraj Nagar on Ring Road, within the limits of Bhandewadi police station in Nagpur city.
The action followed information received by the escort squad of Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil. The squad had learnt that bets on the outcome of the cricket match were allegedly being placed from the house of Bunty Sheru Ahmed Pathan.
Acting on this information, a police team led by API Bhagwan Koli, head of the escort squad, raided the house in the presence of panch witnesses.
During the raid, police allege they found Bunty Sheru Ahmed Pathan and Vicky Anil Bansod at the house. According to police, the two were using mobile phones to carry out betting transactions linked to the cricket match.
Police seized three mobile phones, a Samsung tablet and Rs 17,500 in cash. The total value of the seized property is estimated at about Rs 1.05 lakh.
A case has been registered against both accused at Bhandewadi police station under the relevant sections of law.
Police are now examining the seized electronic devices and the financial transactions. They are trying to establish the scale of the alleged betting, identify others linked to the network and trace the money involved.
Further investigation is under way.
