A man was found roaming near a truck parking area in the Tarsa locality of Gondpipri carrying a naked sword in his hand, and has been detained by Gondpipri police. Police on night patrol received a tip-off about the matter, following which a team rushed to the spot. A 54-centimetre-blade iron sword was recovered from the accused, who had no licence for keeping the weapon. A case has been registered under the Indian Arms Act in the matter.

According to information received, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajik Shaikh and police personnel Giteshwar Bawne of Gondpipri police station were on night patrol duty. During this, they received information that a man was roaming with an open sword in his hand near the truck parking area in Mouza Tarsa. Given the seriousness of the matter, police lost no time in taking two witnesses along and set off for the spot.

When police reached the truck parking area, they found a person moving about suspiciously with a sharp weapon. Police immediately detained him and asked his name and address. He gave his name as Kamal Premlal Netam, aged 32, a private driver by profession, resident of Kolarghat, Dongargaon tehsil, Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh.

Police questioned the suspect about the weapon in his possession and its licence, but he had no legal papers. He also could not give a satisfactory answer about where the sword had come from and for what purpose. The investigation found that he was roaming with the sharp sword with the intention of spreading fear in the area.

Police then, in the presence of the witnesses, seized the iron sword, which had a 54-centimetre blade and a total length of 68 centimetres, valued at around Rs 800. Police took the accused into custody and brought him to the station. A case has been registered against the accused, Kamal Netam, under Sections 4 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act on the complaint of police personnel Rajik Shaikh. The matter is being further investigated by police head constable Mallayya Nargewar.
