A passenger allegedly beat up a ticket checker on duty at Lonavala station on Thursday, and RPF and the Lohmarg police have begun an investigation.
A shocking incident was reported on Thursday at the railway station in Lonavala, a popular tourist destination. During ticket checking, a passenger assaulted a ticket checker (TC) who was on duty. It happened on the platform in broad daylight.
According to the information available, the railway administration was carrying out routine ticket checking on the platform at Lonavala station. While the TC was checking one passenger's ticket, an argument broke out between the two for some reason. At first, the two were only exchanging heated words.
But within moments the situation worsened. The enraged passenger suddenly attacked the TC and began hitting him. The assault, in full view of everyone on the platform, caused panic among other passengers waiting for a local train, and chaos broke out.
The railway administration is deeply angered that a railway employee discharging government duty was attacked in a public place. No official information has so far emerged on whether the quarrel began over a fine for travelling without a ticket or for some other reason.
Eyewitnesses recorded the assault on their mobile phones. As the video spread on social media, members of the public are also reacting with anger. The question of the safety of railway staff has been raised seriously once again.
The railway administration has taken the incident seriously. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Lohmarg police have immediately begun an investigation. The passenger who carried out the assault is being identified on the basis of the viral video. Stringent legal action is being taken against him on charges of obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duty and assaulting an employee.
The unfortunate incident has raised questions about security at railway stations and the protection of TC staff.
