A hoax call to the emergency helpline about an explosive in a parked car brought police and the bomb disposal squad to Raj Nagar; nothing was found.
A bomb report caused panic in Nagpur's Raj Nagar area on Friday, October 23, but it later turned out to be a false alarm. A 75-year-old woman allegedly told police that an explosive had been planted in a car parked outside her house.
The incident took place at about 10.30 am on Friday in front of Tidke High School. The woman called the emergency helpline 112 and reported the bomb threat. She also gave the car's registration number, MH02 CN 9014.
Police took no chances. The traffic department and the bomb disposal squad were informed. Several police vehicles and personnel reached the spot. Panic spread among local residents when the teams began checking the suspect car.
Curious about the sudden action, people came out of their homes to find out why police had been deployed there.
According to police, the car had been parked in front of the elderly woman's house by a neighbour's relative, who had come to attend a function in the area. The woman is said to have objected to the car being parked there, and she made the bomb threat call after that.
The bomb disposal squad searched the car thoroughly but found no explosive and nothing suspicious. The fear subsided.
The car's owner is an assistant sub-inspector with the Railway Protection Force (RPF). He also reached the spot and asked police about the inspection. He was told that the vehicle was being checked after a bomb threat was received on the emergency helpline.
Police then examined the emergency call and concluded that the elderly woman had made it. A case has been registered. Further investigation has begun to establish the circumstances and motive behind the false alarm.
A parking quarrel turned into a bomb rumour and forced several emergency teams into action. The peace of the residential area was disturbed for a while.
