Thunderstorm alert in Vidarbha, light showers in Mumbai and Pune, Nagpur sees sun and clouds
IMD warns of thunder and gusty winds in Vidarbha, while Mumbai and Pune expect light showers and Nagpur stays partly cloudy with sunshine.
Weather conditions will vary across different parts of Maharashtra on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said there is a strong likelihood of thunder, lightning and gusty winds in Vidarbha today. A warning for very heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds had already been issued for Vidarbha on September 25 as well, meaning the spell has continued for two days.
In Mumbai, the sky will remain mostly cloudy today and light rain is possible. According to the forecast from IMD's Mumbai-Colaba centre, the city's maximum temperature could be around 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 26 degrees Celsius. No separate weather warning has been issued for Mumbai at present, meaning conditions there are being considered normal.
Pune is expected to see largely similar weather, with cloud cover and the possibility of light rain. As per IMD estimates, Pune's maximum temperature will be around 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 25 degrees Celsius. No specific warning has been issued for Pune for September 26 either.
The real concern is over Vidarbha, where weather is expected to remain fairly active today. IMD's regional warning bulletin has clearly stated that thunder, lightning and gusty winds are likely on September 26. However, there is some relief in that no fresh warning has been issued for the region from September 27 onward as of now.
In Nagpur city, the morning temperature was recorded at around 25 degrees Celsius. According to available forecasts, the city's maximum temperature today could be around 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 22 degrees Celsius. The weather will be partly cloudy, but sunshine will continue as well. Signs point to a gradual rise in temperature over the coming days, with Nagpur's maximum temperature on Sunday expected to reach around 33 degrees Celsius.
In Mumbai, the morning temperature was recorded at around 28 degrees Celsius, while today's maximum is expected to be between 31 and 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum between 26 and 27 degrees Celsius. Humidity in the city was around 82 percent and air pressure around 1008. Mumbai's Air Quality Index stood at 73, which falls in the moderate category, while PM2.5 levels were around 25 and PM10 levels around 65.
In view of the IMD warning, people in Vidarbha have been advised to take particular care during thunderstorms. It is important to stay away from open fields, tall trees, electricity poles and other exposed areas when lightning strikes. In case of any sudden change in weather, people have been advised to keep track of the latest warnings from the local administration and the IMD.
