Nagpur: Thieves targeted a clothes shop in the Lakadganj area under cover of darkness at night. They broke open the shutter, entered and took Rs 10,000 in cash from the till. They fled in fear of being caught when noise and shouting began. The incident took place at Jamna Society No. 1 on Central Avenue and has caused unease among traders. Police are searching for the thieves with the help of CCTV cameras in the area.
Satinder Kaur, who lives in Chhaparu Nagar, runs a ladies' clothes shop called "Ginni's Fashion Studio" in Jamna Society No. 1. On the night of the incident she had closed the shop and gone home. At about 5 am the next day she received a phone call from her neighbour Mahendra Singh Vohra, who told her that the shop's shutter was open.
Satinder Kaur reached the shop immediately. On going in, she saw that the thieves had pried open the shutter and entered. The Rs 10,000 in cash kept in the drawer was missing.
Three suspects had come to commit the theft on a two-wheeler. While they were stealing from the shop, people nearby got wind of it. When people raised an alarm, the accused fled the spot fearing capture. Had people not noticed in time, it is hard to say how much more loss the thieves would have caused.
Lakadganj police have registered a case on Satinder Kaur's complaint and begun an investigation. Police are examining footage from CCTV cameras installed in the area, and the thieves are being traced with its help.
Shopkeeper Satinder Kaur said thefts have increased considerably in the area. The theft at Jamna Society No. 1 has caused unease among traders there.
