Tata Motors has posted a strong performance in India's passenger vehicle market in the second quarter of financial year 2026-27. Between July and September 2026, the company sold 1,96,674 cars in the domestic market. In the same period last year the figure was 1,40,189 units, meaning domestic sales rose 40%.

Including exports, Tata Motors' total passenger vehicle sales reached 2,01,723 units.

For the first six months, April to September 2026, the company sold 3,76,840 passenger vehicles in total. In the same period of the previous financial year, 2,64,028 units were sold. Sales were about 42.7% higher this time. The popularity of the SUV segment, rising demand for electric vehicles and the response to CNG models appear to have driven the company's performance.

The company's electric vehicle business drew particular attention this quarter. In Q2 FY27, it sold 47,150 electric vehicles, against 24,855 units in the same quarter last year. EV sales thus grew 90%. Electric vehicles accounted for 23% of total quarterly sales. CNG models made up 28%, and together the two contributed more than 50% of the company's quarterly sales.

In September 2026, Tata Motors sold 70,210 passenger vehicles in the domestic and overseas markets combined. In September 2025 the number was 60,907 units. Domestic sales were 68,810 units, and 15,384 electric vehicles were sold. Since 9,191 electric vehicles were sold in September last year, EV sales rose 67% year on year.

SUV models such as the Tata Punch and Tata Nexon played an important part in the company's sales. The company is also focusing on new models such as the Curvv series X, the Sierra Legend series and the Eris sedan.

Going forward, the company will focus on increasing production capacity, launching new models and widening the reach of its passenger vehicle sales. If electric and CNG vehicles keep getting the same response, Tata Motors could see further growth in the next quarter as well.
