Migraine complaints have become very common these days and can be caused by different reasons. Migraine should not be mistaken for an ordinary headache, it is considered a psychosomatic disorder. The pain is mostly felt in the front part of the head, on the forehead or around the eyes. It can also come with nausea, vomiting and discomfort from bright light and loud sound. A migraine attack can sometimes last from a few hours to several days. The pain can be so intense that it becomes difficult to carry out everyday tasks.

When a migraine starts, the first thing to do is move away from bright light and noise. Resting for a while in a quiet, dimly lit room can help. Bright light and loud sound can worsen the discomfort for many people. Some people also find relief by placing a cold compress on the head or neck. If the headache keeps recurring or becomes too troubling, it is important to get it checked by a doctor so that the exact cause can be identified and proper treatment given.

Gently massaging the head during or to prevent a migraine also brings relief for some people. Tension in the muscles of the head and neck can worsen headaches in some people, and massage can help reduce that tension and bring a feeling of relief.

Lack of proper sleep worsens migraine trouble. It is not just sleeping too little, sleeping too much or frequently changing sleep and wake times can also trigger migraines in some people. One should try to sleep and wake up at a fixed time every day. Use of mobile phones and other screens should also be reduced before going to sleep at night.

Bright light is considered a common trigger for migraine headaches, a condition known as photophobia. If light worsens your headache, avoid using very bright bulbs or lights at home or at work. Use curtains that fully darken the room. Wear sunglasses when stepping outside. If you work on a computer, using an anti-glare screen can also help.
