Stock markets to stay shut for three straight days from October 2
BSE and NSE will halt trading for three consecutive days from October 2 to 4 on account of Gandhi Jayanti and the weekend.
Investors trading on the stock market need to take note of an upcoming stretch of holidays. The market will remain closed for three consecutive days next week, and it is important to know which days trading will be suspended and why.
October 2 falls on a Friday, and Gandhi Jayanti is observed across the country that day. Since it is a public holiday, the market will be closed. The next day, October 3, is a Saturday, when the stock market does not operate. This is followed by Sunday, October 4. This means BSE and NSE will see no trading for three straight days, from October 2 to October 4, during which investors will be unable to either buy or sell shares.
Because of these holidays, traders will get only four working days this week. These four days run from Monday, September 28 to Thursday, October 1, and trading is possible on all of them. However, Monday has already passed. So trading will now be possible only on the three remaining days, from September 29 to October 1.
The stock market opens every working day, with trading starting in the morning and the market closing at 5 pm. It also remains closed on all government holidays and festivals. For instance, in October, after October 2, the market will also be closed on October 20 for Dussehra. It also stays shut on Diwali and Christmas. Traders and those interested in the stock market should keep track of these dates in advance to plan their investments and avoid any pending transactions getting stuck on closed days.
