Skoda has officially launched the long-awaited Slavia facelift in India's midsize sedan segment. The car arrived in the Indian market in 2022, and this is its first mid-lifecycle update. The new model starts at Rs 10 lakh ex-showroom.

It will compete directly with the Volkswagen Virtus, Honda City and Hyundai Verna. The Honda City is priced between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 21.36 lakh, the Hyundai Verna between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 18.31 lakh, and the Volkswagen Virtus between Rs 10.71 lakh and Rs 19.20 lakh.

The starting price of the new model is the same Rs 10 lakh as the old one, but the top model has become costlier by about Rs 64,000.

Variant-wise ex-showroom prices are as follows. The Classic 1.0 TSI MT costs Rs 10.00 lakh. The Classic+ is Rs 10.99 lakh for the 1.0 TSI MT and Rs 12.49 lakh for the 1.0 TSI AT. The Signature is Rs 13.94 lakh for the 1.0 TSI MT and Rs 14.94 lakh for the 1.0 TSI AT. The Sportline is Rs 14.34 lakh for the 1.0 TSI MT and Rs 15.34 lakh for the 1.0 TSI AT. The Prestige is Rs 15.89 lakh for the 1.0 TSI MT, Rs 16.89 lakh for the 1.0 TSI AT and Rs 18.59 lakh for the 1.5 TSI AT. The Monte Carlo is Rs 17.29 lakh for the 1.0 TSI AT and Rs 18.84 lakh for the 1.5 TSI AT.

Outside, the new Slavia's design stays close to the original, but a few small changes make it look sharper and sportier. At the front are updated LED headlights with segmented DRLs, a segmented chrome strip on the grille, new LED fog lamps and a sporty bumper with a revised air dam. The sides and rear get new-design 16-inch alloy wheels, a chrome-tipped window line, revised LED tail lamps with sequential turn indicators and a new rear bumper.

The car is now also available in two new colours, Arctic Silver and Cappuccino Beige. The Monte Carlo edition has all-black exterior elements, special 'Monte Carlo' badging, red highlights on the grille and dual-tone options.

The car is 4,552 mm long, 1,752 mm wide and 1,507 mm tall. The wheelbase is 2,651 mm, the ground clearance 179 mm and the boot space 521 litres.

Inside, the standard trims retain the beige-and-black theme, but silver-beige inserts replace the earlier copper inserts. The Monte Carlo variant gets red stitching and an all-black interior theme.

New features include a 10.1-inch infotainment system with Google AI assistant, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a 360-degree camera and a new variable-geometry compressor for the air conditioning. A rear-seat massage function is offered for the first time in the segment. A single-pane sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats and an 8-speaker audio system are retained. The car does not get ADAS features.

On the engine front, the same two turbo-petrol options continue. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine produces 115 hp and 178 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed manual and a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine produces 150 hp and 250 Nm of torque and continues with a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

Claimed mileage is 19.76 km per litre for the 1.0 TSI MT, 19.50 km per litre for the 1.0 TSI AT and 18.79 km per litre for the 1.5 TSI AT.
