Small businesses across the country had a strong first week in Amazon India's Great Indian Festival 2026. Sellers' total sales rose 3.5 times compared with a normal day's business, while product sales grew at twice the pace.

Units sold by new sellers rose by more than 2.5 times. The number of micro, small and medium businesses (SMBs) selling more than Rs 10 lakh grew four-fold.

The festival saw the highest number of sellers ever on Amazon, an increase of about 30% a year. More than 70% of the participating businesses were from tier-2 and tier-3 cities. The result comes as Amazon makes selling easier and cheaper through measures such as zero referral fee on products priced under Rs 1,000.

Sachin Kaushik, Vice President of Selling Partner Services at Amazon India, said: "In every festive season we see inspiring stories of entrepreneurs who reach new customers and achieve special success. This year, the success of new sellers, women entrepreneurs, artisans and small businesses has especially boosted our morale. More than 70% of the SMBs taking part are from tier-2 and tier-3 cities."

According to Kaushik, entrepreneurs from Jaipur and Kota to Nagaur and Nadia are building businesses that reach customers beyond their local markets. He said: "At Amazon we believe we succeed only when our sellers succeed. That is why our focus is on making selling easy and affordable through low selling fees, tools and guidance, so that businesses of every size can prove their full potential."

Both new and established small businesses did well in the first week. The number of new sellers with sales above Rs 1 lakh rose 2.4 times, while new sellers crossing Rs 10 lakh in sales grew by more than four times. The number of small businesses with sales above Rs 10 lakh in the first week rose 4.6 times. The momentum held at higher levels too, with the number of sellers with sales above Rs 1 crore growing by more than 1.5 times.

Women entrepreneurs and traditional artisans also expanded their businesses by reaching new markets. Women entrepreneurs linked to Amazon Saheli recorded a ten-fold rise in sales from cities such as Churu, Bhopal, Jaipur and Kota. Under the Amazon Karigar initiative, handicrafts made by artisans in Jodhpur, Nagaur, Saharanpur, Ajmer and Nadia saw good demand, and their sales rose by more than 1.5 times.

The five best-selling categories for sellers in the first week were jewellery, footwear, automotive, large appliances and wireless products. To prepare sellers for the festive season, Amazon India ran the Sale on Amazon campaign in more than 150 cities in September. Ten special sessions were also held under the Festive Readiness Seller Academy with e-commerce influencers and Amazon Ads experts, covering topics from the use of AI to advertising and growing a business. These initiatives were rated 4.5 out of 5.
