Saudi Arabia's Shebara Island resort offers mirrored round villas floating on the sea
The Shebara Island resort in Saudi Arabia has 38 round villas over water, clad in stainless steel, alongside 35 villas modelled on desert dunes.
Many people love a seaside stay, but few would have thought of living in the middle of the sea. The resort on Shebara Island in Saudi Arabia offers just such an experience. Its round villas, built in the middle of the sea, look like a UFO has landed on earth and astonish every visitor.
The resort has 38 round villas over the water. Their round shape is inspired by coral reefs. The exterior is made entirely of stainless steel and looks like a giant mirror, reflecting the sun, the sky and the sea in a captivating view. To an onlooker, the villas seem to float in the air. According to a report, the position and direction of the moon were also carefully considered when the villas were built in the sea.
Apart from the round villas on the water, there are 35 other villas of a very different look. Their design imitates the curving sand dunes of the desert, giving guests an experience of living among dunes.
The resort takes full care of its guests' comfort, and the villas come with a range of facilities. There are five distinctive restaurants, known for Mediterranean and Japanese food. A spa, a gym and different kinds of pools are also provided.
It is also a good destination for diving enthusiasts. The slope of a coral reef lies 30 to 40 kilometres from the shore, making it a good diving spot.
To power the entire resort, a large solar energy project has been set up over 110,000 square metres, so the whole system runs on solar power. Special boats are also available for getting around.
