Artificial intelligence has today established its presence in every field, be it education, hospitals, business or scientific research. But the same technology is also becoming a major threat to all of humanity. At a recent important meeting of the United Nations Security Council, heads of major AI companies from around the world sat together and expressed deep concern over the unchecked use of the technology. The meeting stated clearly that if strict safety rules and laws for the use of AI are not framed worldwide, humans could in the coming time completely lose control over the technology they themselves have created.

The meeting was attended by several big names from the technology world, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. Anthropic's Amodei said clearly at the meeting that if the development and use of AI is not managed properly, the technology could wipe out the entire human race. Sam Altman also expressed concern, saying that however powerful and advanced AI becomes in the future, countries must urgently build an international security system to ensure that final control remains with humans. According to Altman, the question of whether humans or machines will make final life-and-death decisions has today become the biggest challenge facing countries around the world.

According to technology experts, the unchecked use of AI in military systems and weapons is the most dangerous. If a lethal weapon or military system is given complete freedom to make its own decisions and, due to a technical fault, it makes a wrong decision, the result could be a terrible war. Besides this, it has now become very necessary to build uniform rules and safety standards across the world to prevent the misuse of AI for making biological weapons, carrying out cyberattacks and other activities that endanger global security.

This cyber security threat is no longer confined to words but has now started showing up in real life. A recent example is a major cyberattack on 21 health clinics in Australia. In this attack, the names, addresses, Medicare numbers and confidential medical reports of more than 50 lakh patients were stolen. To prevent this sensitive information from being sold online or leaked on the dark web, the company concerned has had to approach the court.

This event showed how unsafe health and personal data has become in the age of AI. However, the major United Nations meeting did not discuss only the threats but also the positive power of AI for the welfare of humans. AI is proving very useful in improving health services, speeding up difficult medical research, strengthening the education sector and speeding up relief work in emergencies. AI systems are also helping humans significantly in gathering accurate information and identifying threats in advance during wars or natural disasters.

In short, AI is like a double-edged sword. If it is used in the right direction and within the bounds of strict global rules, it will prove to be a boon for humanity. But if strict laws are not made at the international level in time, the same technology could endanger the very existence of humans. This is the message that was given to the whole world through the United Nations meeting.
