Saree shop trader beaten by group of youths over refund dispute in Nagpur

Seven to eight youths barged into a saree shop near Kalyaneshwar Temple in Nagpur and assaulted the owner after a dispute over a refund, police said.

Nagpur: A minor dispute that began over a request for a refund on a saree turned into a violent assault. Seven to eight youths walked into a saree shop to avenge a quarrel with a customer and attacked the trader, injuring his face with kicks and punches. The incident took place at Parag Saree Collection, near Kalyaneshwar Temple, in the Kotwali police station area.

According to the information available, Mohan Katle, 50, runs a shop named Parag Saree Collection near Kalyaneshwar Temple. On October 16, Shubhangi Praveen More came to the shop with her mother and bought seven sarees. The next day, October 17, she returned to exchange the sarees and left after doing so. On October 18, Shubhangi came to the shop again and asked for the price of one saree to be refunded.

This led to an argument between Katle and Shubhangi. The dispute escalated so far that Katle's wife and Shubhangi also exchanged abuse. Both sides filed complaints at Kotwali police station, on the basis of which police registered non-cognisable (NC) cases.

Following this dispute, seven to eight youths entered Katle's shop on the night of October 18. They abused him and asked how he had hit Shubhangi. The youths then attacked Katle with kicks and punches, and he suffered injuries to his face. After the attack, all the accused fled the spot.

Mohan Katle then went to Kotwali police station and lodged a complaint. Police have registered a case of assault and rioting and begun an investigation.

The incident, in which a group stormed into a shop and beat the owner after a minor dispute, has raised questions about the safety of traders in the city.
