Colleges affiliated with Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) are facing a familiar problem this year, raising fresh questions about the university's functioning. The admission process for the third and fifth semesters of undergraduate and postgraduate courses such as BA, BCom and BSc is yet to be completed.

Meanwhile, the university administration has clearly instructed all colleges to get students' exam forms filled and submit the related details by September 28. The problem is that there is no coordination between the admission timeline and the exam form deadline, leaving college managements worried.

The situation is such that most colleges have completed only about 35 percent of admissions so far, with a large number of students still to be admitted. This has left colleges asking why there is such haste in getting exam forms filled when admissions themselves are incomplete.

The greatest concern is for students who have not yet been admitted. If the admission process continues beyond September 28 and the last date for filling exam forms is not extended, such students will have no opportunity to fill the forms at all. This could directly affect their upcoming semester examinations.

Colleges say that the actual number of students becomes clear only after the admission process is complete, and it would be better for both sides if the exam form process began only after that. At present, admissions are ongoing on one hand while the exam form deadline has already been fixed on the other, putting colleges under pressure to complete both tasks in a short time. Principals say the university should extend the last date for exam forms in view of the actual admission situation, so that no student's future is harmed merely because of the deadline.

Following the university's directive, principals of affiliated colleges met Nagpur University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Manali Makarand Kshirsagar and explained the situation in full. The principals sought a few extra days to complete the admission process so that all students who take admission can be included in the exam process. However, according to the principals, they have not yet received the relief they expected.
