Rs 1,809-crore integrated steel plant proposed in Gondpipri, 1,200 direct jobs expected
Hyderabad-based Shri Raj Iron and Steel Products has signed an MoU with the Maharashtra government for a Rs 1,809-crore integrated steel project in Gondpipri taluka.
Chandrapur district has received significant news for its industrial development. Hyderabad-based Shri Raj Iron and Steel Products Pvt Ltd plans to set up an integrated steel project in Gondpipri taluka with an investment of Rs 1,809 crore. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government for the purpose.
The proposed project is expected to give a major boost to the industrial sector of Gondpipri and the whole of Chandrapur district. About 1,200 direct jobs are expected to be created. If work proceeds as per the prescribed process, the target is to commission the project during 2029-30.
The MoU was signed at an event at Mantralaya in Mumbai. Dr P. Anbalagan, Principal Secretary, Industries Department, and company directors Kishan Agarwal and Anurag Agarwal were present. Dr Kapil Chandrayan, chief executive officer of the Association for Industrial Development, and Madhusudan Rungta, president of the MIDC Industries Association, Chandrapur, were also there.
Under the MoU, the government will help the project secure the required permissions, registrations, approvals, various government licences and clearances, in keeping with its policies, rules and existing provisions.
Gondpipri taluka is known as an agriculture-dominated area, so a proposal for such a large industrial investment is being seen as significant. If the integrated steel project comes up, it is likely to create local employment and also opportunities in transport, construction, services, supply, small industries and other allied businesses.
However, before the project can take off on the ground, several government approvals and environmental and other legal processes will have to be completed. For now, it remains a proposed project, and the MoU is an important step in the process ahead.
With jobs expected for the youth of Gondpipri taluka, it is hoped that the next stage will bring a concrete plan for giving local people preference in recruitment, skill training and opportunities for local small industries.
Given the proposed investment of Rs 1,809 crore and about 1,200 direct jobs, the whole district is now watching the project. People will be keeping an eye on how quickly the administrative process moves ahead and when actual work begins.
