Rohit Sharma hits 101 off 75 balls as India beat West Indies to win ODI series in Guwahati
Rohit Sharma scored 101 off 75 balls and crossed 12,000 international runs as India chased 406 for the loss of two wickets in Guwahati.
India and West Indies played the second ODI in Guwahati yesterday. The Indian team won comfortably and took the series. Several big records were set in the match.
Batting first, West Indies scored 405 runs in 50 overs and set India a target of 406. India reached it easily, losing only two wickets. A total of 811 runs were scored in the match.
Chasing the target, captain Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma opened the Indian innings. Together they put on a partnership of more than 200 runs. Captain Gill hit a superb double century.
Rohit Sharma also batted aggressively, scoring 101 off 75 balls before getting out. In the same innings he completed 12,000 runs in international cricket. With this record, Rohit has now joined the club of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar.
Rohit's celebration after reaching his century has gone viral on social media. He was later asked about it. Rohit said he keeps the celebration to himself. According to him, some things should remain private. Rohit said, "I did it for myself. I did this celebration for myself."
The century carries added weight because questions were being raised over whether Rohit Sharma would play the 2027 World Cup. With yesterday's innings, Rohit showed that both his fitness and his form remain intact. Through this knock he also made it clear that he is ready for the World Cup.
On the whole, the Guwahati match belonged to the Indian batters. Amid Gill's double century, Rohit's hundred and his 12,000-run milestone, India recorded an easy win in reply to West Indies' 405.
