Renault sales slip in August as Nissan surges 148 percent
Renault's August 2026 India sales fell year-on-year even as the Triber carried the brand, while new models drove a 148 percent jump for Nissan.
Renault and Nissan are both widening their model lineups in India, but their August 2026 sales moved in opposite directions. Renault's overall sales fell from a year earlier, while Nissan's sales jumped sharply on the back of new models.
Renault sold a total of 2,842 cars in India in August 2026, down from 3,015 units in August 2025. The Triber accounted for the largest share of this, with 1,536 units sold. The Kiger sold 474 units, the Kwid 426 units and the new Duster 406 units. The Triber alone made up more than half of the company's total sales.
There had been considerable anticipation among buyers for the new Renault Duster ahead of its launch, but its August 2026 sales stood at 406 units. It will be worth watching how Duster sales grow in the coming months. The company is also focused on expanding its production lineup in India, with more models in the pipeline.
Nissan's August 2026 numbers, on the other hand, were strong. The company sold a total of 3,426 cars in India, up from just 1,384 units in August 2025, a year-on-year increase of 148 percent, the biggest jump between the two companies. The entry of the Gravite and Tekton, alongside the Magnite, drove this growth.
The Nissan Magnite was the company's best-selling car in August, with 1,495 units sold, compared with 1,384 units in August 2025. The Nissan Gravite also recorded sales of 1,440 units, putting it nearly on par with the Magnite. The newly launched Nissan Tekton sold 491 units in August. Going forward, attention will remain on the performance of these new models, since they are behind Nissan's big sales jump.
