The Renault Duster Hybrid, a car the Indian automobile market has awaited for some time, has been officially launched, and the company has announced its prices. It is Renault's first strong hybrid in the country and is drawing attention for its mileage and advanced features.

The company has reopened bookings for the SUV. Customers can book it by paying a token amount of Rs 21,000.

The new Duster Hybrid has a 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, paired with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery. The complete setup produces 160 bhp of power and 208 Nm of torque. The petrol engine alone delivers 110 PS and 175 Nm. According to the company, the SUV reaches 100 kmph from a standstill in just 9.6 seconds.

The vehicle has a dual-clutch automatic transmission and six advanced driving modes that change automatically according to road conditions. The battery does not need an external charging point, as it keeps charging while the vehicle is running and braking.

Mileage is the SUV's biggest highlight. The company claims the car delivers 29 kilometres per litre (kmpl). In crowded city traffic, it can run in EV mode 80 per cent of the time.

The vehicle has a 50-litre fuel tank and offers a range of more than 1,400 km on a full tank. It is considered the highest claimed mileage in the mid-size SUV segment so far. Its power and mileage are both said to be better than those of models such as the Maruti Grand Vitara and the Toyota Hyryder.

Renault has introduced the Duster Hybrid in three main variants. The Evolution starts at an ex-showroom price of Rs 16.99 lakh. The Techno is priced at Rs 18.99 lakh ex-showroom, while the Emotion is priced at Rs 19.49 lakh ex-showroom.

To build customer confidence, the company is offering a seven-year warranty on the vehicle. The battery carries a warranty of eight years or 1.6 lakh km. In the Indian market, the vehicle is set to compete strongly with the Maruti Grand Vitara Hybrid and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
