Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana earns Rs 64.85 crore net on opening day in India
Early trends show the Nitesh Tiwari film netted Rs 64.85 crore from 25,200 shows on its release day, 5 November, with gross collection put at Rs 77.50 crore.
Ranbir Kapoor's much-awaited film 'Ramayana' released in cinemas on 5 November. Counted among Bollywood's most lavish productions, the big-budget film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. There was considerable anticipation among audiences before release, and the film had also earned well in advance booking. All eyes were therefore on how much it would make at the box office on day one.
Early figures for the first day are now in. According to these trends, 'Ramayana' earned Rs 64.85 crore net in India from 25,200 shows. The film's total gross collection in India is reported to be Rs 77.50 crore.
Ranbir Kapoor and Yash play the lead roles. The film drew a good response from audiences on day one, with crowds seen in many cinemas from the morning shows. On social media, the film's VFX, the acting of Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, and the music are being praised. A scene between Ravana and Jatayu in particular caught the audience's attention. The earnings appear to be benefiting from the good reaction of audiences and critics.
The language-wise earnings were as follows:
Hindi: Rs 47.50 crore from 20,678 shows
Kannada: Rs 7.25 crore from 1,197 shows
Telugu: Rs 6 crore from 1,776 shows
Tamil: Rs 2.60 crore from 992 shows
Malayalam: Rs 1.50 crore from 557 shows
On opening day, 'Ramayana' has left several popular films behind. On its release day itself, it surpassed the first-day earnings of Ranveer Singh's 'Dhurandhar', Rs 28 crore. The opening-day collections of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan' (Rs 57 crore), Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal' (Rs 63 crore) and Ajay Devgn's 'Drishyam 2' (Rs 62 crore) were also left behind.
However, 'Ramayana' could not reach the Rs 75 crore opening collection of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan'. Ranveer Singh's 'Dhurandhar 2' earned Rs 102 crore on its first day this year, and that record also stands.
Given the large budget, it had been expected that the film would cross Rs 100 crore on day one. According to early figures, that mark was not reached. Even so, with a net collection of Rs 64.85 crore, the film is being seen as having made a strong start at the box office. How much the earnings grow in the coming days, and which other records the film breaks, will be important to watch.
