The BCCI is likely to take a major decision soon. Former India spinner Ramesh Powar is highly likely to be given the post of chief selector of the BCCI. It is being said that Powar could be chosen in place of Ajit Agarkar.
Former spinner Pragyan Ojha is currently heading the selection committee on an interim basis. The BCCI is now considering giving a new face a full-time place on the selection committee, and Powar's name is at the forefront of this discussion.
Powar, a former India spinner and an experienced coach, could become chief selector of the BCCI's senior men's selection committee. The last date for applying to the selection committee had been fixed as October 14. That period has now ended.
After the deadline, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has held in-person interviews with the top four to five candidates who applied. The interview round is understood to have included former India opener Wasim Jaffer, as well as former Baroda players Connor Williams and Jacob Martin. Jaffer is also reported to have been interviewed.
Powar's name is being discussed for the post of chief selector of the Indian cricket board's men's selection committee. As a former bowler, his journey in cricket and coaching has been highly successful. His record, from representing India as a player to achieving success as a coach, has been significant.
Under his guidance, and under the captaincy of the dashing batter Prithvi Shaw, the Mumbai team won the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2021.
Overall, the application deadline has passed, the interviews have been held, and all eyes are now on the BCCI's decision. Ojha is handling the responsibility on an interim basis for now, while Powar's name is at the forefront for the full-time post. The decision is likely to come soon. No final selection has been announced, so Powar's appointment remains only a possibility for now.
