Rain returns to Maharashtra, Nagpur temperature likely to cross 34 degrees
IMD forecasts heavy rain, thunder and strong winds across Maharashtra from September 23, with the monsoon withdrawal under way.
Weather is set to change again in Maharashtra from Wednesday, September 23, 2026. According to forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of the state are likely to see heavy rain accompanied by thunder and strong winds. The effect is expected to be seen in Konkan-Goa, central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha.
In Vidarbha, heavy rain is likely on September 23, while some areas could see very heavy rain on September 24 and 25. Rain may continue in parts of Vidarbha on September 26 as well. People in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been advised to stay alert.
Mumbai and the Konkan region could also see heavy rain and thunder on Wednesday. Konkan-Goa is expected to receive heavy rain on September 23, with thunder and strong winds likely in some places on September 24. Central Maharashtra and Marathwada could also see heavy rain with thunder today, with rain accompanied by strong winds likely to continue in parts of Marathwada on September 24 and 25.
The monsoon withdrawal process is under way in Maharashtra, and a weather system linked to the Bay of Bengal is affecting several parts of the state in the meantime. Between June 1 and September 22, the state recorded 787.2 mm of rainfall, against a normal of 953.2 mm for this period, a shortfall of 17 percent so far.
In Nagpur city, the temperature was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius on September 23. The day's maximum temperature is expected to be around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 27 degrees Celsius. Sunrise will be at 5:44 am and sunset at 5:51 pm. Humidity stands at 87 percent, while atmospheric pressure is at 1006.
Over the next seven days, Nagpur's minimum temperature is likely to fluctuate. The forecast puts the minimum temperature at 32, 26, 25, 27, 29, 32 and 33 degrees Celsius respectively.
On air quality, Nagpur recorded an AQI of 67 today, which falls in the Moderate category. The PM2.5 level stood at 30 and PM10 at 60. Air quality could change in the coming days along with the rain and wind conditions.
