Rain alert with thunder issued for Mumbai, Pune, Ratnagiri, several other districts

The weather department has forecast thunderstorms and heavy rain in parts of Maharashtra, offering relief from humidity, with a yellow alert in several districts.

After days of unsettled weather that left people troubled by rising heat and humidity, rain has made a comeback and is expected to bring relief. Moderate to heavy returning monsoon showers are falling in some parts of the state, though not everywhere, so people in several areas are still waiting for rain. Rain accompanied by lightning has been forecast in Pune, Sangli, Kolhapur and several other districts of the state.

The weather department has forecast heavy rain in some places and light to moderate rain in others. Rain with lightning has been forecast in Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur ghat areas, Kolhapur, Sangli, Pune, Pune ghat areas, Nashik, Nashik ghat areas, Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Dharashiv, Parbhani, Hingoli, Yavatmal, Wardha, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Bhandara and Gondia districts. A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for Satara, Satara ghat areas, Raigad, Solapur, Latur, Nanded and Gadchiroli districts.

Heavy rain is also expected in Sindhudurg, Kolhapur ghat areas, Dharashiv, Latur, Nanded, Yavatmal, Wardha, Chandrapur, Nagpur, Gadchiroli and Gondia districts. The weather department has forecast light showers in Palghar, Dhule, Nandurbar and Jalgaon districts.

According to the weather department, rain is likely in Konkan and Goa between September 22 and 27. Central Maharashtra is likely to see moderate to widespread rain on September 22 and 23, while Marathwada is likely to see it on September 23. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely at some places in Konkan, Goa and Central Maharashtra between September 21 and 24, and in Marathwada between September 21 and 23.

Strong winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are also forecast in some areas. In view of this, citizens have been urged to take full precautions for their safety during lightning, strong winds and rain.
