The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has released a short notification for NTPC undergraduate recruitment 2026. The recruitment will fill 1,688 vacant posts in the Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) at the undergraduate level across various zones. The application process will begin on October 15, and candidates can apply until 11:59 pm on November 13. The recruitment is being conducted under CEN 07/2026. A detailed notification will be issued by the Railways on October 14.

The recruitment covers four types of posts: 188 Train Clerk posts, 700 Commercial cum Ticket Clerk posts, 200 Accounts Clerk cum Typist posts and 600 Junior Clerk cum Typist posts, adding up to 1,688 vacancies in total. The starting salary for Commercial cum Ticket Clerk is Rs 21,700, while Train Clerk, Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Clerk cum Typist carry a starting salary of Rs 19,900. Salary and allowances for these posts will be as per the 7th Central Pay Commission.

Candidates applying for these undergraduate-level posts must have passed class 12 from any recognised board. For the Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Clerk cum Typist posts, candidates must also be able to type in Hindi or English on a computer. Candidates must be between 18 and 30 years of age as on January 1, 2027. Age relaxation will be given to reserved category candidates as per government rules.

Candidates can apply online through the RRB's official application portal or the website of the concerned regional RRB. A new registration must be completed first, after which candidates can log in using their registration number and password to fill in personal, educational and other required details. Photographs, signature and required certificates must be uploaded in the form, followed by payment of the prescribed fee to submit the application. Candidates are advised to download and keep a copy of the submitted application.

General and OBC candidates will have to pay a fee of Rs 500, while SC, ST, ex-servicemen, women, persons with disabilities, transgender, minority and economically weaker section candidates will have to pay a minimum fee of Rs 250. General and OBC candidates who appear for the first phase CBT exam will get a refund of Rs 400 after deduction of bank charges. Similarly, candidates from categories with a concessional fee will get a refund of Rs 250 on appearing for CBT 1.

The selection process will take place in several stages. CBT 1 will have 100 questions with a duration of 90 minutes, comprising 40 questions on general awareness, 30 on mathematics and 30 on general intelligence and reasoning. Candidates who qualify will appear for CBT 2, which will have 120 questions, comprising 50 questions on general awareness, 35 on mathematics and 35 on reasoning. Candidates applying for posts that require typing will also have to take a typing skill test. The final stage will consist of document verification and a medical examination.
