Pune police drive before Ganeshotsav nets four pistols, five habitual offenders
Pune police seized four country-made pistols and live cartridges in a 24-hour crackdown across three police station areas ahead of Ganeshotsav.
Crime has been rising in Pune, and police are making continuous efforts to check it. With Ganeshotsav approaching, Pune police have launched a strict drive against those carrying illegal weapons to maintain law and order. Under this drive, four pistols and three live cartridges were seized from three police station areas in the city within just twenty four hours. Along with three adults, two minors were also taken into custody in the action.
An order banning the carrying of weapons is in force in Pune city. With Ganeshotsav in view, police are keeping a watch on habitual offenders. Action has already been taken against nearly six and a half thousand people over the past year, with police focus particularly on those carrying unlicensed weapons. The action is being carried out through patrolling, searches based on suspicion and on the basis of information received.
Police patrolling near a crematorium in Vadgaon Sheri Gaothan in the Chandannagar police station area found the movements of two men suspicious. Police detained and searched Ujjwal Vinod Lavhe (23, resident of Devachi Uruli) and Akash alias Gajya Ashok More (20, resident of Vadgaon Sheri). Two country-made pistols and two live cartridges were recovered from the two.
Separately, Bharti Vidyapeeth police apprehended two minors near the Rajaram Kadam swimming pool on Lake Town Road. A country-made pistol was seized from them as well. The parents of both minors were counselled and further legal proceedings have been initiated. Senior Pune police officers said strict action against those carrying illegal weapons and those involved in crime in the city will continue going forward.
Separately, Kondhwa police arrested a habitual offender for possessing a country-made pistol. A pistol and one cartridge were seized from him. The arrested accused has been identified as Aman Jameel Khan (27, resident of Supreme League Society, Inamnagar, Kondhwa Khurd). The action was carried out by Sub Inspector Ravindra Gawde and his team under the guidance of Senior Inspector Santosh Khetmalas and Crime Branch Inspector Santosh Chaudhary. Khan is a habitual offender who works as a delivery boy. A police team was patrolling in the Kondhwa area when investigating team members Pushpendra Chavan and Keshav Hirve received a tip off about the accused.
