A Mahajyoti scholarship examination could not be held at its centre in Ambegaon Budruk, Pune, even after the candidates had reached it. The exam was cancelled because the computers required for it were not available at the centre. San Bright School had been made the centre for the examination.

The exam was scheduled for 9 am to 11 am today. The girl students reached the centre on time, but 9 am passed and the exam did not begin. They were later told that computers were not available at the centre, and so they did not get a chance to take the exam.

The students stood outside the centre for a long time. No clear information was given on when the exam would be held or whether they would get another chance. The situation at the centre turned chaotic. The students and their parents are deeply upset that they arrived on time and the exam still could not be held.

The students had worked for many days for the scholarship exam, and had spent time and money on study, travel and preparation. Now, only because the centre did not have the required computers, all their preparation has gone to waste. There is a demand that the authorities concerned fix responsibility for the lapse and give students clear information on the next exam as soon as possible.

The incident has come at a time when paper leak cases across the country are raising questions about the transparency of the examination process. After the NEET paper leak case, students across the country had raised the issue of transparency in the examination system. Students had also shown anger over an alleged paper leak in an MPSC exam. Now that the cancellation of an exam in Pune because of a lack of computers at the centre has come to light, questions have once again been raised about how exams are organised and arranged.

Students are now waiting to see what decision the administration takes so that they do not suffer an academic loss.
