Pranavi Urs becomes first Indian woman to win Asian Games individual golf gold
Mysuru's Pranavi Urs, 23, won the women's individual title at the 2026 Asian Games, and India took team silver.
India's Pranavi Urs made history at the 2026 Asian Games, winning gold in the women's individual golf event and becoming the first Indian woman golfer to do so.
With the gold, Pranavi also played a key role in India's silver medal in the women's team event. In the final round of the four-round event, she made par on the last hole to reach 15 under par.
Singapore's Shannon Tan and China's Yin Ruoning finished on 14 under par and shared the silver medal.
The 23-year-old from Mysuru held on to a one-stroke lead in the final round, and that earned her the historic result. She made a triple bogey on the third hole but followed it with three birdies.
She shot an even-par 70 in the final round. Her total after four days was 15 under 265.
In the team event, the team of Pranavi, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar won silver. Aditi shot 67 and Diksha 77 in the final round. India finished on 14 under 546. China won team gold with 22 under 538.
In men's golf, India's gold was won by Shiv Kapur at the 2002 Busan Games.
Pranavi is among the youngest women golfers in the country. She is only 23. She took up golf at the age of six, inspired by her father and brother.
Pranavi was also part of the Indian women's golf team at the 2023 Asian Games. India finished fourth in the team event then, missing a medal by a narrow margin.
This is India's 18th gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. There are hopes of more medals to come.
