The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a major decision on the junior selection committee. Former India fast bowler Parvinder Awana has been appointed the committee's new chairman. The board announced this in a press release issued on Friday, October 23.

According to the board, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) recommended Awana's name after the interview process was completed. Krishna Das, Rakesh Patel and Arjun Yadav have also been placed on the junior selection committee along with Awana. The fifth member of the committee will be appointed soon.

Awana will now be responsible for picking junior cricketers and preparing new players for Indian cricket. The 40-year-old Awana has played two T20 internationals for India. In his career he played 62 first-class matches and took 191 wickets. He has played for Delhi, India A and Rest of India. In the IPL, he also turned out for Kings XI Punjab.

After retiring from playing, Awana moved into coaching. He has worked with Delhi's Under-16, Under-19 and Under-23 teams. He has also been associated with the India Under-19 team and with various programmes run by the BCCI and the Centre of Excellence (COE).

Among the other three members of the committee, Krishna Das is a former fast bowler who played for Assam and Goa. He took 166 wickets in 49 matches in his first-class career. He has also played for India Under-19 and India A. He has considerable coaching experience too. He has been bowling coach of the India Under-19 team and has also worked as bowling coach of Uttarakhand's Ranji Trophy team.

Rakesh Patel has played for Gujarat and Baroda. He represented India A and took part in domestic tournaments such as the Duleep Trophy, Deodhar Trophy and Irani Trophy. In coaching, he has worked with Gujarat and Baroda's Under-19, Under-23 and senior teams. In the 2025-26 season he was also head coach of Baroda's Under-23 team. His experience is expected to help in selecting junior players.

The junior selection committee thus has Parvinder Awana as chairman, with Krishna Das, Rakesh Patel and N. Arjun Yadav as members.
