Doctors in Gondia district have removed more than 100 stones from the gallbladder of a 65-year-old woman from Padmapur. She had suffered unbearable abdominal pain for six months. Dr Novil Brahmankar, a senior specialist at Brahmankar Multispecialty Hospital in Gondia, and his medical team completed the complicated operation using laparoscopy, also known as keyhole surgery.
According to the information available, the woman had severe stomach pain for the past six months. In the hope of better treatment, she went to her son, who lives in Mumbai, and consulted three well-known doctors there, but her pain did not ease. Disheartened, she returned to Gondia and contacted Brahmankar Multispecialty Hospital.
Dr Brahmankar, the hospital's senior surgeon, conducted a sonography and other necessary medical tests. According to the doctors' report, the gallbladder was found to contain a large number of stones. As her condition was worsening, the doctors decided to operate immediately.
The complex surgery lasted about three to four hours. The doctors used the laparoscopic technique, in which the operation is carried out through very small openings without a large incision on the body. More than 100 stones, big and small, were removed during the surgery.
Her condition improved rapidly within just two days of the operation, it has been learnt. After long days of unbearable pain, the woman and her relatives were relieved.
The patient and her family sincerely thanked Dr Brahmankar and all the medical staff of the hospital. "The relief we did not get despite going from one big city to another, we got in Gondia itself because of modern treatment methods," the patient's relatives said.
