Actress Nimrat Kaur has revisited memories of her father, who was killed in the line of duty. Major Bhupendra Singh died 32 years ago in a terror attack in Kashmir. In a recent interview, Nimrat spoke about how her father was killed, the grief that followed at home and how her mother brought up both daughters.

According to Nimrat, her father was abducted on an ordinary working day. He was travelling somewhere on duty and was returning when people dressed as soldiers took him away. They were terrorists wearing army uniforms. "He was abducted on an ordinary working day. He was going somewhere for his duty and, while returning, people dressed as soldiers abducted him. They were wearing army uniforms and they took him away," Nimrat said.

After the abduction, the family hoped he would return safely. Over the next seven days, however, the terrorists put forward one demand after another, some of them relating to the release of people held in jail. On the seventh day, the family received news that her father had been killed, Nimrat said.

Recalling that time, Nimrat shared a heart-wrenching memory. "That morning I saw my father leaving for work. I only remember him going, and the next time I saw him, he was in a coffin," she said. She also said she had never been able to fully come out of the incident.

Nimrat's mother was very young when her husband died. Even so, she raised Nimrat and her sister on her own. Nimrat praised the way her mother held the family together in difficult circumstances. "The way my mother raised us and then rebuilt her life and ours, very few women could have done it alone with such dignity and ease," she said.

On her father's death anniversary, Nimrat had also shared an emotional post remembering him. "It has been 32 years since Papa served the nation. He was a true son of the soil, a true hero, a wonderful husband and father. Most importantly, he was a soldier as brave as a lion," she wrote, paying tribute to him.
