The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has prepared a new module for students of Classes 9 to 12. NCERT, which functions under the Ministry of Education, has developed the introductory module on computational thinking and AI.

The module has been designed keeping in mind the priorities of the National Education Policy 2020. It aims to build 21st-century skills, technological awareness and logical thinking among schoolchildren. Its biggest highlight is that no prior knowledge of AI is needed to study it.

According to a press release issued by NCERT, computational thinking in the module means identifying problems and solving them in a systematic, reasoned manner. Through it, students will be able to understand the role AI plays in everyday life and how it works.

To keep learning interesting and practical, the module uses an experiential, activity-based approach. It includes activities such as discussions, hands-on practical work and practice exercises, and self-reflection.

Keeping in view the shortage of digital resources, every activity can be conducted both online and offline. This will also benefit students in schools with limited resources or limited internet access.

The module places special emphasis on using technology more safely, fairly and responsibly. It will focus strongly on student awareness, such as digital safety, keeping personal data private, and fairly examining misinformation that spreads on the internet.

Children will also be taught not to trust AI blindly, but to judge the accuracy and verification of information themselves. The module also covers human judgment, creativity and responsibility for ethics.
