National Techies Day is observed on October 3 every year. The day honours the contribution of engineers, software developers and other technical professionals in the IT and technology sector.

The world today runs on computers, the internet and the digital revolution. Behind the smartphone apps, online banking and social media people use from morning till night are technical experts who work around the clock. They are also behind the advanced equipment used in hospitals.

The day began in the United States in 1999. The IT (Information Technology) and dot-com revolution was taking root rapidly at the time, and demand for technical skills had grown. It came to be observed to draw school and college students towards technical education, spark their interest in coding and programming, and encourage them to build good careers in the field.

In 2026, technology is no longer confined to computer or software companies. It has become the foundation of every part of human life. In education, online learning, digital classrooms and e-learning platforms have carried learning to every corner of the country.

In healthcare, artificial intelligence (AI), robotic surgery and telemedicine have brought major changes to treatment. In industry and business, e-commerce, cloud computing and digital payment systems have made trade across the world much easier and faster. In the environment and mobility sectors, electric vehicle (EV) technology, smart city initiatives and weather forecasting systems are helping lay the foundation of a sustainable future.

On National Techies Day, educational institutions, engineering colleges and IT companies around the world hold various events. To encourage young students to learn tech skills, hackathons, coding competitions, robotics workshops and talks by technology experts are organised. These give the new generation an understanding of subjects such as AI, data science, cyber security and blockchain.

The day is a reminder that knowledge of technology is the real key to further progress. Techies, who find new digital solutions to the world's problems, simplify complicated difficulties and make human life more comfortable, are the modern innovators who lead society along the path of progress. It is therefore the responsibility of the whole society to respect their exceptional work and keep encouraging them.
