The Karnataka Milk Federation has announced an Rs 8 per litre hike in Nandini milk, of which Rs 7 will go to dairy farmers.
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has announced an increase of Rs 8 per litre in the price of its Nandini brand of milk. The new rates will come into effect on November 1. The hike will directly affect tea drinkers and household kitchens.
After the increase, Nandini milk will cost Rs 54 per litre instead of Rs 46. Of the Rs 8 increase per litre, Rs 7 will be given to milk-producing farmers and Rs 1 will stay with KMF.
This will be the fifth increase in the price of Nandini milk. Earlier, the price was raised by Rs 3 per litre in November 2022, Rs 3 in July 2023, Rs 2 in June 2024 and Rs 4 in March 2025. The latest hike was announced a day after the results of the Karnataka Legislative Council election.
The effects of inflation are already being felt across the country, with the prices of many essentials rising. Milk rates have gone up in several states. In Maharashtra, the price of milk has crossed Rs 100 per litre in one jump. Tamil Nadu has also seen a considerable increase in milk prices. Karnataka will now see another increase from November 1.
The rising cost of producing milk is being cited as the biggest reason for the price rise. According to experts, the industrial use of maize and soybean has increased, pushing up their prices. This has also affected the prices of animal fodder and feed. The prices of green and dry fodder have also raised costs for farmers who keep livestock, and this is directly reflected in the price of milk.
The gap between the rates paid for milk to farmers in Karnataka and those in neighbouring states is widening. Together with rising costs, this has put milk cooperatives in difficulty. The organisations concerned argue that the increase will ease the growing costs of milk producers and strengthen the rural economy.
From November 1, customers in Karnataka will have to pay Rs 8 more for every litre of Nandini milk, of which Rs 7 will reach farmers.
