Shantinagar police have booked a 60-year-old man and his nephew for cheating a woman of her Fortuner, valued at Rs 5 lakh, after paying her only Rs 50,000.

Nagpur: A case of cheating in the name of trust has come to light, in which a woman's Fortuner, valued at Rs 5 lakh, was taken from her on the pretext of settling an old business dispute. Only Rs 50,000 was paid for the vehicle, and it was handed over to a third person without the balance being paid. The accused already has criminal cases registered against him in the Khaparkheda police station area. Shantinagar police have now registered a case.

According to the complaint, about four years ago the woman's husband and Riyaz Khan, 60, had struck a business deal over scrap material. The deal was cancelled after a dispute over the transaction. Riyaz Khan was subsequently said to be demanding from the woman's husband compensation for expenses incurred in that deal. To settle this dispute, the woman, trusting him, handed over to the accused Riyaz Khan the Fortuner registered in her name, valued at Rs 5 lakh.

Riyaz Khan paid the woman only Rs 50,000 for the vehicle and, without paying the rest, handed it over, together with his nephew, aged about 40, to Parmanand Moryani, a resident of Panchpaoli. All this was done without the woman's permission. Her Fortuner was also used in a criminal case registered in the Khaparkheda police station area. As the vehicle's instalments were not paid and she did not receive the balance, the woman suffered financial loss.

The woman filed a complaint at Shantinagar police station. Police have registered a case of cheating against Riyaz Khan and his nephew.
