Nagpur: Witness in 2024 murder case attacked with sticks in Beltarodi, five booked

A case of a murderous attack on a young man who is a witness in an old murder case has come to light in the Beltarodi police station area of Nagpur. It is alleged that five people beat him with wooden sticks and tried to strike his throat with a sharp weapon. The man suffered injuries to the fingers of his right hand. Police have registered a case against five accused on his complaint and begun an investigation.

The incident took place in the Kaikadi Nagar slum in the Beltarodi police station area. According to police, the complainant, Lalsingh Patel, is a witness in the 2024 murder of Dilip Sahu. Omprakash Papde, Piyush Lilhare and Akash Lilhare are also said to be accused in the same murder case.

It is alleged that after coming out of jail on bail, these men would abuse Lalsingh whenever they saw him. It has been said that the matter escalated because of this old enmity.

According to the complaint filed with police, on the night of October 19, Lalsingh was standing in front of his house when all five accused arrived and began quarrelling with him. When Lalsingh objected, the accused allegedly began beating him with wooden sticks.

The complaint also alleges that during this, one of the accused tried to strike Lalsingh's throat with a sharp weapon. His fingers of the right hand were injured as he tried to protect himself.

Members of Lalsingh's family and local residents came forward to intervene during the attack. It is alleged that the accused threatened them too by brandishing a sword. The injured man then went to the Beltarodi police station and lodged a complaint.

Police sent the injured man to a medical hospital for treatment. A case has been registered on the complaint against Omprakash Papde, Piyush Lilhare, Akash Lilhare, Gajanan Suryawanshi and Sanjay Verma.

According to police, three of these five are also named in the 2024 Dilip Sahu murder case. They had come out of jail on bail about six months ago.

Beltarodi police are investigating the case further. Further legal action will follow after the circumstances behind the attack and the alleged role of each accused are examined.
