Nagpur: Wadi police have arrested a suspect in an attempt to break into a bank by smashing its lock. The accused were traced on the basis of CCTV footage from 40 locations and technical leads. One of them, Nilesh Bawne, has been arrested. Police claim he has admitted to taking part in the crimes with two associates.
In the early hours of October 2, a trader told bank manager Nikhil Potdar that the bank's gate was open. The manager reached the spot immediately and found the lock of the channel gate broken. The bank's CCTV footage showed three youths trying to break the lock. Police then registered a case and began an investigation. As attempted thefts had occurred at other places too, police started a technical probe and went through CCTV footage from about 40 locations. With the help of the Yashodhara Nagar police team, three suspects were identified, and Nilesh Bawne was arrested on that basis.
During questioning, Bawne admitted to committing the offences in the Wadi area with his associates Vicky Dehariya of Panchpaoli and Rahim Sheikh of Yashodhara Nagar. Police are searching for both. They are also trying to establish what role the gang played in other thefts in the area, besides the attempt at the bank.
