Nagpur: Minor schoolgirls have fallen victim to sexual assault after being lured through Instagram friendships. The incidents took place under the Ambazari and Yashodhara Nagar police stations. Police have registered cases and begun investigations.
A 17-year-old girl had got to know the accused, Vivek alias Vicky Ram Kumar (20), on Instagram. On October 18, 2025, Vivek called her to meet him near the ramp at Ambazari Lake. When she arrived, he lured her and had sexual relations with her. He then kept calling her, pressing her to send photographs of her private parts. Worn down by the constant calls, she was forced to send them. After getting the photographs, Vivek threatened to show them to her family. He frightened the girl and continued to have sexual relations with her. He also threatened to make the photographs viral if she did not talk to him every day.
Distressed by a year of blackmail and sexual exploitation, the girl told her family. A complaint was then filed at Ambazari police station. Police have registered a case under rape, the Information Technology Act and the POCSO Act.
In a similar case, a 15-year-old girl had befriended Toufique Ansari of Kinkhede Layout on Instagram. Toufique began taking her out with him and gained her trust. While her family was away, he came to her house and forced himself on her. He threatened to kill her if she told anyone. The girl told her family what had happened and a complaint was filed at Yashodhara police station. Police have registered a case under rape and POCSO provisions. The incidents have caused alarm among parents.
Friend's wife also targeted
The husband of a 26-year-old woman and the accused, Shahrukh Hasan Sheikh (26), are friends in Yashodhara Nagar. Shahrukh used to visit the woman's home. In May, he forced her into sexual relations at knifepoint. He threatened to kill her husband if she told anyone. This had been going on for five years.
