Nagpur: Two held for extorting Rs 20,000 from tea stall owner at knifepoint
Three men allegedly threatened a Nagpur tea stall owner with a knife over a monthly extortion demand of Rs 20,000; two have been arrested.
A case of extortion has come to light in the Tahsil police station area of Nagpur. Three young men allegedly demanded that a tea stall owner pay them Rs 20,000 every month, and when he refused, they allegedly showed a knife and threatened to kill him. The same men are also accused of an earlier incident of abusing and assaulting a motorcyclist. Tahsil police have registered a case against all three accused, of whom two have been arrested while the search for the third continues.
According to the complainant, Sanjay Kharbikar, he was returning home on his two-wheeler after visiting the Panchpavaleshwar temple. Near the railway crossing before Panchpavli, in front of Bhisikar's tea stall, three young men suddenly came in front of his bike. When Sanjay asked them to move aside, an argument broke out.
According to the complaint, the three men abused Sanjay and also got into a scuffle with him. It is further alleged that during this, they picked up a stone lying on the road and struck his bike with it, damaging it.
After the incident, Sanjay went to the tea stall of his friend Chandrashekhar Bhisikar. It is alleged that soon after, the three men arrived there too and began assaulting Sanjay again. When Chandrashekhar and his companions stepped in to intervene, the accused threatened them as well.
The complaint states that the accused showed a knife and demanded Rs 20,000 every month, threatening to kill him if the money was not paid.
Based on the complaint, Tahsil police have registered a case against Soham alias Sonu Nimje, Akshay Dhakate and one other accused. Police have arrested Soham Nimje and Akshay Dhakate, while the search for the third accused is ongoing.
Police said Soham Nimje already has cases registered against him under the NDPS Act and for possession of illegal weapons. Police also said Akshay Dhakate has several previous criminal cases registered against him.
