Nagpur sand trader beaten after WhatsApp message on overloading; case against four
Hudkeshwar police have booked four sand traders for allegedly assaulting a colleague who wrote in a WhatsApp group that he would report overloaded sand trucks.
A sand trader in Nagpur paid a heavy price for writing in a WhatsApp group that he would complain to the police about trucks overloaded with sand. Four traders angered by the message called him to meet them and beat him severely. His friend, who came to intervene, was also assaulted. Hudkeshwar police have registered a case against the four accused.
According to the police, the accused are Amol Bhode (38) of Bada Tajbagh, Sagar Barde (35) of Mhalginagar, Pawan Mahajan (30) and Nikhil Dhabale (32). Akshay Gajanan Bhoyar (37) of Ayodhyanagar and his friend Sumit were injured in the incident.
Akshay, Amol, Sagar and Pawan are all in the sand business. A WhatsApp group exists for coordination among sand traders. At about 8.30 pm on Sunday, Akshay was having a meal with his friend at Telephone Exchange Square. At that time, the group was discussing sand trucks.
Akshay wrote in the group alleging that, instead of the prescribed 9 brass, some traders were loading 11 to 12 brass of sand. He also wrote that if the overloading continued, he would complain to the police and have the vehicles seized.
Amol flared up at the message and began abusing Akshay in the group itself. Akshay was then called to meet at the Vihirgaon bypass on Umred Road.
Akshay reached the spot with his friend Sumit at about 10.30 pm. It is alleged that Amol, Sagar, Pawan and Nikhil, who were already there, began beating Akshay while abusing him. Pawan also allegedly picked up a stone from the road and struck Akshay on the head. When Sumit stepped in to save Akshay, the accused beat him too.
After receiving a complaint, Hudkeshwar police registered a case against all four accused and began an investigation.
