Eight cattle were freed from a pickup in Mominpura and 15 from a field in Neri; all were sent to a cow shelter, and an arrest was made in the Mominpura case.
Nagpur Police have acted at two separate places in connection with the alleged illegal transport of cattle. One action took place in Mominpura and the other in Neri village. A total of 23 cattle were rescued from the two places, and the police sent all of them safely to a gaushala (cow shelter).
The first action took place near Abbu Miyan Masjid in Ansar Nagar, Mominpura. Tehsil police had received information that cattle were being transported illegally. Police then stopped a suspicious Bolero pickup, registration number MH-49-D-1326, and searched it.
In the search, eight cattle were found inside the vehicle, tied with ropes and kept in very cramped conditions. Police rescued all eight. In this action, police seized goods worth about Rs 4.30 lakh, including cattle valued at Rs 80,000 and the pickup vehicle valued at Rs 3.50 lakh.
In this case, police arrested Bhushan alias Ranjeet Mahadev Ramteke, a resident of Dongri in Mauda. A case has also been registered against Mohd Sharif Qureshi and Mohd Shahbaz Qureshi.
The second action took place near the Nagoba temple in Neri village. Police had received information that 15 cattle were being kept tied up in a field, allegedly to be sent to a slaughterhouse. A police team reached the spot and rescued all 15 cattle.
According to police, local residents said the cattle had not been given adequate fodder and water for about two days. Police recovered the 15 cattle, worth about Rs 2.80 lakh, and took them to a gaushala.
In this case, a case has been registered against unidentified accused at Naveen Kamthi police station. No accused has so far been identified in the Neri case.
Police are continuing the investigation in both cases. They are trying to trace the network that illegally transports cattle and allegedly delivers them to illegal slaughterhouses.
