Nagpur police book man, 41, over child sexual abuse material after US cyber agency report

Imamwada police registered a case against the man for allegedly downloading and sharing obscene content involving minors, acting on a report from a US organisation.

Nagpur: Imamwada police in Nagpur have registered a case against a 41-year-old man in a serious matter involving the downloading of obscene content related to minors through the internet and social media, and sending it to others. The action was taken on the basis of a report from a cyber organisation in the United States. Police are now examining the accused's digital devices so that electronic evidence linked to the alleged acts can be collected.

According to police, the accused is Ronit Ramrake alias Nitesh Shankarrao Shende (41). He is alleged to have hidden his real identity online and used a false name. Police say that through digital platforms linked to his mobile number and email ID, he was involved in downloading obscene content related to the sexual exploitation of minors and forwarding it.

The lead in the case came from a cyber tipline report of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the United States. The report proved important in the case. According to information received by police, the report, issued on May 6, said objectionable content had been circulated on digital platforms linked to the accused. Considering the gravity of the matter, police then began an investigation.

On the basis of the initial information, police themselves became the complainant, registered a complaint and took legal action against the accused. Offences have been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the POCSO Act and the Information Technology (IT) Act.

During the investigation, police are examining the accused's mobile phone and other electronic devices. The aim is to trace the content allegedly downloaded and shared, along with the related digital accounts and evidence linked to these activities.

Circulating sexual exploitation content involving minors online is a serious crime. In such cases, examination of digital evidence and online activity is important. Police are currently looking into various aspects of the case. The allegations against the accused will be established through the investigation and during court proceedings.
