A man who took over a financed truck and promised to pay its instalments stopped after two payments and sold the vehicle as scrap, a complaint says.
Nagpur: A case of fraud has come to light in which a man won a truck owner's trust and caused him a loss of lakhs of rupees. The man took over a truck bought on finance and promised to pay its instalments, but stopped paying after just two. When the owner asked for the vehicle back, he learnt that it had been cut up and sold as scrap.
The accused, Suresh Gaikwad (35), is acquainted with Akash Bhalerao, a cousin of complainant Shubham Shamkuwar, from Nagarjun Colony. Using this acquaintance and friendship, Gaikwad won Shamkuwar's trust. He had the truck financed in Shamkuwar's name and took it into his possession. He also assured Shamkuwar that he would keep paying the remaining instalments regularly.
He initially paid two instalments, which gave Shamkuwar confidence. But Gaikwad then suddenly stopped paying. When Shamkuwar asked Gaikwad to return the truck, he was told it had been cut up and sold as scrap. Shamkuwar was stunned. The truck he had financed was no longer in a condition to run on the road.
On Shamkuwar's complaint, Kapil Nagar police have registered a case of cheating.
