The Anti-Narcotics Task Force seized 40 kg 300 g of ganja in Nagpur's Pardi area; the contraband and other material were valued at about Rs 47.30 lakh.
Nagpur: A consignment of ganja was being brought from Odisha to Maharashtra, to be taken by truck to Latur, but police stopped the alleged smuggling bid once it reached Nagpur. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) acted in the Pardi police station area and seized 40 kg 300 g of ganja. The total value of the seized goods, including the ganja and other material, is put at about Rs 47.30 lakh.
Three accused have been arrested. They are Gunderao Narayan Tondare (39), Namdeo Baliram Rode (33) and Raju Tejrao Sunar (39), of Varwanti, Ahmedpur, Latur.
According to preliminary information, the ganja was being brought from Odisha and was to be delivered to Latur. Police foiled the alleged smuggling attempt in Nagpur itself. After the three arrests, police are now trying to find out from whom the consignment was bought, to whom it was to be handed over in Latur, and who else is involved in the trade.
A key question in the case is the ganja supply chain: whether the three arrested men were the entire link in the trade, or whether a larger inter-state smuggling network is active behind them. Police are questioning the accused to gather information on the source of the ganja, possible buyers and other contacts linked to the smuggling. The investigation is continuing.
