Nagpur man makes 78 fake calls to Dial-112 claiming brother attacked him
Police found the emergency call about a knife attack was false and have booked the caller for misleading them.
A strange case has come to light in the Hudkeshwar area of Nagpur, where a man called the police emergency helpline Dial-112 nearly 78 times, falsely claiming that his own brother had attacked him with a knife and was trying to kill him.
Given the seriousness of the calls, police rushed to the spot, but investigation revealed the whole thing was an attempt to mislead them.
According to police, Shyam Bhaurao Janorkar (40), a resident of Shrikrishna Nagar in Hudkeshwar, began calling Dial-112 repeatedly around 8 pm on the night of September 18. In a panicked voice, he told police that his brother had attacked him with a knife and that he had either already been killed or his brother was about to kill him.
Police did not take the repeated, serious calls lightly. On the instructions of senior police inspector Anamika Mirzapure, a team was immediately dispatched to the spot, comprising sub-inspector Praveen Bakre, police staff Ravidutta Tambe and Ashish, and beat marshal Havildar Someshwar Bulbule.
When the team reached the spot and began questioning Shyam Janorkar about the incident, he could not give any clear or satisfactory answer, and his account kept contradicting itself during questioning. Police also searched the surrounding area and the spot itself but found nothing to prove that the brother had actually attacked him with a knife. This made it clear that the information given on Dial-112 was not real but intended to mislead police.
After the case turned out to be false, police informed senior officers. According to police, the accused wasted the police's valuable time and resources by calling the emergency helpline around 78 times.
Under the guidance of senior police inspector Anamika Mirzapure, sub-inspector Praveen Bakre filed a case against Shyam Janorkar on behalf of the state, on a complaint by Havildar Someshwar Bulbule, under Section 217 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Hudkeshwar police are further investigating the matter.
