Nagpur hit-and-run was attempt to murder, MCOCA accused held at Shegaon station
Police say a hit-and-run case in Nagpur's Sonegaon area was a planned attempt on a man's life over an old dispute; the last absconding accused was arrested.
A hit-and-run case registered in Nagpur's Sonegaon area has taken a new turn. A police investigation has allegedly found that the incident was not an accident but a deliberate attempt to kill Sheikh Akram alias Bhuru Sheikh Rehman over an old dispute.
Sheikh Mohsin alias Baba Tiger Sheikh Musa, an accused under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) who had been absconding in the case, has been arrested by Crime Branch Unit-2. Police said that on receiving information about his movements, they laid a trap and caught him at Shegaon railway station.
The incident took place on the night of August 11, 2026. A four-wheeler allegedly hit Sheikh Akram in front of Hotel Memories near Somalwada Chowk. The driver then fled the spot. Sonegaon police initially registered the case as a hit-and-run.
Crime Branch Unit-2 meanwhile began a separate investigation. Police examined CCTV footage, technical evidence and intelligence inputs, which allegedly revealed an old dispute between Akram and the accused. Investigators then suspected that the vehicle had been made to hit him deliberately.
Five accused had already been arrested in the case. They are Shahbaz Khan alias Salman Billa, Aamir Bashir Sheikh, Mohammad Sahil Ansari, Mohammad Toufiq Sheikh and Sheikh Shareef Sheikh Saleem. Sheikh Mohsin alias Baba Tiger, however, was still absconding. Given the alleged organised crime background, police have also invoked MCOCA against the accused.
Police had received a tip that Mohsin was in Akola and preparing to travel somewhere by train. The Unit-2 team, in disguise, laid a trap at Shegaon railway station. As soon as the accused arrived at the station, police took him into custody.
Police recovered two mobile phones and property worth about Rs 1 lakh from him. He was then handed over to Sonegaon police for further legal action and investigation.
