Nagpur crime branch raids nab two drug peddlers with MD in separate operations
Nagpur police arrested two men and detained a minor with mephedrone (MD) in separate crime branch raids in Yashodhara Nagar and Rana Pratap Nagar.
Nagpur's crime branch anti-narcotics squad and Unit 2 raided two separate locations in the city and arrested accused involved in drug supply. The action followed prior tip-offs to the police. Mephedrone, known as MD drug, was recovered from the accused in both cases.
The first case was in the Yashodhara Nagar police station area. The anti-narcotics squad was on patrol when police received information that a man sitting in a black SUV near the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana quarters was selling drugs. Acting on the tip, police cordoned off the spot and caught 40-year-old Ijazuddin Riyazuddin Siddiqui, a resident of Hamidnagar. A search of his trouser pocket recovered 58.600 grams of MD in a ziplock pouch.
During questioning, Siddiqui told police that the drugs were supplied to him by Aamir Mukim Malik, Karim Mukim Malik, Shibu Malik, Kaif Malik, Sagar Mohammad Latif Ansari and a person named Osama, all residents of Hamidnagar. Police are now searching for all of them.
The second operation was carried out by the Unit 2 team in the Rana Pratap Nagar police station area. A police team was patrolling the Hingna T-Point area when two young men on a two-wheeler near Subhash Nagar Metro Station appeared suspicious near Subhash Nagar Metro Station. On suspicion, police stopped and searched them. Eleven grams of MD were recovered from the pocket of 29-year-old Akshay Chandrashekhar Yawalkar, a resident of New Nildoh, Hingna Road. A minor was also caught in this action, whose identity has not been made public by police.
Police have registered cases in both matters under the NDPS Act, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The market value of the seized MD drugs is said to run into lakhs of rupees.
The crime branch team is now intensively questioning the arrested accused to reach the main kingpin and bigger peddlers behind the network. Police said the drive against drug trafficking in the city will be intensified further in the coming days.
