Online cab and auto booking is growing across the country, and disputes between passengers and drivers are increasingly coming to light. One such incident recently occurred in the Pratap Nagar area of Nagpur, where an auto driver, angered after a ride booked through the Rapido app was cancelled, allegedly sent obscene and offensive messages to a 36 year old woman. Based on the woman's complaint, Pratap Nagar police have registered a case against the accused driver and begun investigating.

According to police, the accused has been identified as Sahil Chaudhary. The victim had booked an auto through the Rapido app on September 19. After the booking, the driver arrived with an auto bearing registration number MH-49-CF-0377. However, according to the woman's allegation, the driver reached a different location instead of the pickup point she had specified, causing her difficulty.

The woman and the driver spoke on the phone to sort out the confusion over the pickup location. During this conversation, an argument broke out between the two and the situation worsened, after which the woman decided to cancel the ride.

As soon as the ride was cancelled, the driver's attitude changed completely. According to the woman, after the cancellation the driver began sending her offensive and obscene messages using Rapido's in app communication platform. It is alleged that the messages used indecent language about the woman and included derogatory remarks about her.

The sudden messages left the woman distressed and upset. She then approached Pratap Nagar police and filed a complaint about the entire incident. Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the driver under the relevant sections.

Pratap Nagar police have registered a case against the accused under sections 79 and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with other applicable provisions in the FIR. Police are examining the conversation between the woman and the accused, the messages sent through the Rapido app, and other digital evidence.

Police have made clear that no one has the right to behave indecently or offensively toward a woman over a cancelled ride or any other reason. Further action will be taken after the investigation into the case is completed.
