A Nagpur police officer who returned home after duty during Ganesh immersion fell ill suddenly at night and died a few hours later during treatment. The deceased, Ravindra Mahadevrao Kokande, 56, was an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Nagpur city police headquarters.

He had been assigned duty in the Panchpaoli police station area for the Ganesh immersion bandobast to maintain law and order in the city. After finishing duty around 1:30 am on the night of September 27, he reached his home in Kapil Nagar, where he lived. He ate dinner and went to sleep.

But around 3:30 am he suddenly developed chest pain. He immediately informed his son Rishabh. The family rushed him to Hope Hospital in Teka Naka without delay. Given his condition, he was then taken to Platina Hospital in Dhantoli and later to Medical Hospital, meaning he was treated at three hospitals one after another. Despite continuous treatment, doctors could not save him, and he was declared dead around 11:27 am.

News of Ravindra Kokande's death sent a wave of grief through the police department. Colleagues who had worked with him remembered him as a friendly and dutiful policeman.

Kapil Nagar police have registered a case of accidental death based on the doctors' medical report. Further investigation into the case is underway.

Ravindra Kokande is survived by his wife Sheela Kokande and two sons, Rishabh and Rohit. Senior officers and staff of Nagpur city police paid heartfelt tribute to him. He was given a farewell with a gun salute and state honours. He was cremated at Kapil Nagar ghat.
