Nagpur: 14-year-old boy jumps to death from 12th floor before father's eyes
A Class 9 student died after jumping from the 12th floor of his Nagpur apartment building in front of his father, police say the motive is unclear.
A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at a society in Prithvirajnagar in the Beltarodi police station area of Nagpur district. Ninad Yatindra Vishwakarma, a 14-year-old student living in the A wing of Max Glory Apartment, jumped to his death from the building's 12th floor. The incident happened in front of his father. Ninad studied in Class 9 at DPS Mihan School and commuted by school bus. His father, Yatindra, is a software engineer working at a private company. Ninad was the couple's only child. The entire society is in mourning after the incident, and the family is in shock. Police have not yet been able to determine why Ninad took this step.
On Wednesday, Ninad was about 10 minutes late returning from school, so his parents were waiting for him at home. Around 3:30 pm, Yatindra looked down from his flat's gallery and saw Ninad talking to an auto driver. The father went downstairs and asked him the reason for the delay. It was then that he noticed Ninad did not have his school bag with him. Ninad explained that a friend who lived in the C wing had taken his bag, and saying "I will bring the bag," he went up in the lift.
About 10 minutes later, Yatindra heard something fall on the ground floor. Going closer, he found Ninad lying on the ground, covered in blood. He had suffered severe injuries to his head, arms and legs. The family rushed him to Nagpur Medical Hospital for treatment, but doctors declared him dead on examination.
As soon as the hospital issued the MLC, Beltarodi police were informed of the incident. A police team reached the spot and examined footage from all the CCTV cameras installed in the society. The footage showed Ninad going up alone. During the investigation, his school bag was found on the terrace of the building.
Beltarodi police station inspector Ravindra Naikwad said that after investigating the entire matter, nothing suspicious has been found so far, and it remains unclear why Ninad took this step. He also said that the parents are deeply shocked, which is why they have not been questioned further. Police have registered a case of accidental death and begun further investigation.
