Mysuru woman and lover held for strangling husband after poison attempt failed

A shocking case has come to light in Hunsur in Karnataka's Mysuru district, where a woman killed her husband with the help of her lover. Police have arrested the accused woman, Pavitra, and her lover, Sunil.

According to the information available, Pavitra was married to Ramprasad and the couple have two children. While the household was running, Pavitra grew close to Sunil, a youth from the village. When Ramprasad learnt of the relationship, the couple began quarrelling every day. Tired of the daily discord and wanting to live with her lover, Pavitra hatched a dangerous plot to get rid of her husband.

To kill him, Pavitra turned to social media and YouTube, where she gathered information on the use of poisonous datura seeds and their effect on the body. On the night of October 16, Ramprasad returned home drunk, and Pavitra took the opportunity. She made idli, mixed powdered datura seeds into it and gave it to her husband to eat. But the poison did not act as quickly as she had thought, and Ramprasad stayed alive after eating the idli.

When the poison plan backfired, Pavitra panicked. She immediately called her lover Sunil to the house. Then, in the dark of night, the two attacked Ramprasad and killed him by strangling him.

After the murder, Pavitra made up a story to avoid suspicion. She phoned Ramprasad's brother and lied: "He has not been getting up since he ate curd." The family rushed Ramprasad to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. It was initially assumed that he had died of a heart ailment or some other illness, and the last rites were performed.

However, police received a tip-off and grew suspicious because of some questionable behaviour, and began a detailed investigation. In the course of the probe, the links in the whole incident and the call details came to light. Finally, when police got tough, Pavitra and Sunil confessed to the crime. Police have arrested both.
